Insurance and billing
Understand your coverage before your visit
Eligible medical dermatology visits may be billed to insurance. Your plan, provider network, reason for the visit, and services performed determine what is covered and what you pay.
Check with your insurer about any referral requirements and the portion of the cost you are responsible for. Cosmetic services are paid for directly by the patient.

Biopsy or procedure
If recommended, a procedure may have a separate charge and may be performed that day or scheduled for another visit.
Lab and tissue testing
Lab tests and examination of biopsy tissue may be billed separately, including by an outside laboratory.
Prescription medication
Your pharmacy benefits determine medication coverage. Some prescriptions require approval from your insurer first.

Is a skin cancer screening the same as a mole check?
A screening is a broader skin examination based on your history and risk. A mole check focuses on one or a few specific spots. Online booking groups these under “Skin Check / Mole Check.” Tell us whether you want a broader examination or have specific spots to discuss so we can plan the visit appropriately.
What if I do not know what my skin condition is?
You can book a medical visit without knowing the diagnosis. Choose the option closest to your concern. For a new, changing, bleeding, or nonhealing spot, choose Skin Check / Mole Check. Call 615.819.1414 if you need help deciding.
Who will I see for my appointment?
Your booking confirmation identifies your scheduled provider. Dr. Allison Weiffenbach is Cortina’s Medical Director and a board certified dermatologist. Evan Hatfill is a board certified physician assistant who provides medical dermatology care. Choose from the providers and appointments available in the scheduler.
Can a biopsy or removal happen at the first visit?
It depends on the findings and the procedure needed. Your provider will explain whether a biopsy or removal is recommended and when it can be done. Some procedures require a separate appointment. If tissue is sent for testing, the result helps guide the next step.
Can I discuss more than one skin concern?
Tell us about your concerns when scheduling and let your provider know which matters most to you. The number and complexity of the concerns will determine what can be addressed during the visit and whether another appointment would be helpful.
