Treatment for expression lines
Botulinum toxin injections temporarily reduce selected muscle activity. They may soften expression lines between the brows, across the forehead, or at the outer corners of the eyes. Approved uses, age limits, dose, and precautions differ by product; your clinician confirms the appropriate areas and reviews the selected product’s information.
Lines caused by changes in volume or skin texture may need a different approach. Your clinician may discuss dermal fillers, laser or device treatments, or skin care when those options better match the concern. Treatment is individualized; a particular appearance cannot be guaranteed.
What to expect
Your visit reviews facial movement, symmetry, health history, medications, and previous treatment. If injections are recommended, your clinician explains the product, dose, risks, aftercare, and full treatment price before you decide. Doses are product specific; units cannot be compared or converted between products.
Some patients notice softening within several days, but onset and full effect vary. Results are temporary, and duration depends on the product, dose, area, and individual response. Follow the aftercare instructions provided, including advice about touching the treated area and exercise.
Cosmetic treatment is self pay and is not billed to insurance. Treatment pricing depends on the recommended product and dose.
Questions about treatment
How do I prepare for a consultation?
Tell your clinician about muscle or nerve conditions, swallowing or breathing problems, facial surgery or weakness, drooping eyelids, pregnancy or breastfeeding, all medicines and supplements, and any botulinum toxin treatment during the past four months. Do not stop prescribed medication without the prescribing clinician’s direction.
Who should not receive treatment?
Do not receive injections if you have an infection at a planned treatment site or a known allergy to the selected product, its ingredients, or any botulinum toxin product. Disclose a cow’s milk protein allergy because it affects eligibility for certain formulations. Your clinician reviews the specific product’s precautions and whether treatment should be postponed.
What reactions and risks should I know?
Possible reactions include discomfort, redness, swelling, bruising, headache, dry eye symptoms, and eyelid or brow drooping. Vision changes or weakness can occur. Risks vary by product and treatment area and are reviewed before treatment.
Can I be treated during the consultation?
Treatment may be possible if recommended, but it is not guaranteed. Consultation fees and any treatment charge are confirmed before care; Dr. Weiffenbach’s same-visit fee policy is explained in the appointment section.
When to seek immediate care
Botulinum toxin products carry a boxed warning that effects can spread beyond the injection area, sometimes hours to weeks later. Seek immediate medical care for trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing; generalized weakness; double or blurred vision; drooping eyelids; or other symptoms suggesting spread. Ask your clinician for the complete prescribing information for the product recommended.
