Begin with the reason for your visit

Medical care and cosmetic care are billed differently.

Medical dermatology

Eligible visits for skin checks, concerning spots, acne, rashes, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and other medical skin concerns may be submitted to participating insurance plans.

A medical visit is not automatically covered in full. Your benefits and any amount you owe depend on your plan and the services provided.

Choose the appointment type that matches your primary reason for visiting. Medical and cosmetic concerns may require different appointment types or separate billing. Call before booking if you want to discuss both.

Before your visit

Verify your benefits before your visit.

Call the member services number on your insurance card to review your benefits. Cortina can explain clinic participation and billing. Benefit verification does not guarantee payment; your insurer determines final coverage when it processes the claim.

01

Network

Confirm that Cortina and your scheduled provider participate in your specific plan’s network of contracted providers.

02

Coverage

Ask whether your visit and any planned services are covered, including any requirement that care be medically necessary.

03

Referral

Ask whether you need a referral, a written order from your primary care provider, before seeing a dermatologist.

04

Your cost

Ask about your deductible (the amount you pay before applicable plan benefits begin), copay (a fixed fee), and coinsurance (your percentage of covered costs).

Before you arrive

Bring what the clinic needs to check you in.

Common questions

Insurance FAQs

Does Cortina accept insurance?

Cortina participates with selected insurance plans for eligible medical dermatology visits at the Belle Meade clinic. Confirm participation for your specific plan and scheduled provider before your appointment. Plans from the same insurance company may have different networks.

Can Cortina guarantee that my visit is covered?

No. Checking benefits before your visit does not guarantee payment. Your insurer determines final coverage after processing the claim. Use the number on your insurance card to confirm current benefits, including coverage for the services you expect to receive.

Do I need a referral?

Some insurance plans require a referral before a dermatology visit. Confirm your plan’s requirements and arrange any required referral before your appointment.

Who is responsible for copays, deductibles, and coinsurance?

Patients are responsible for lawful patient amounts, including applicable copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and properly disclosed noncovered services. Contractual adjustments and amounts Cortina is prohibited from billing are not your responsibility. See our Patient Financial Policy for payment and deductible estimate details.

Are cosmetic and elective laser services covered?

Cortina treats cosmetic care, clinical facials, and elective laser or device services as self-pay and does not bill them to insurance. Pricing is reviewed before treatment.

What if I do not have insurance or my plan is out of network?

Medical visits can also be self-pay. Patients without insurance and patients using out-of-network benefits must pay in full at the time of service. Unless required by law or a payer agreement, Cortina does not submit claims for out-of-network benefits. Call before booking to discuss clinic billing and review our self-pay policy.

Can I request an estimate before my visit?

If you do not have insurance or are not using it for your care, you can request a Good Faith Estimate, a written estimate of expected charges for scheduled non-emergency care. Call 615.819.1414 before your visit. Our Patient Financial Policy explains estimate timing and your related rights.

Could I receive a separate laboratory bill?

Yes. Biopsies, cultures, and other tests may be analyzed by independent laboratories that bill separately. Ask which laboratory is expected to be used, then check its network status and pricing with the laboratory and your insurer. Review our outside services policy for details.
