How to Care for Your Skin After a Laser Treatment

How to Care for Your Skin After a Laser Treatment

Laser treatments can work wonders for your skin, improving tone, texture, and overall appearance. However, proper aftercare is essential to maximize your results and ensure a smooth healing process. Here’s a guide to the do’s and don’ts of post-laser skincare.

The Do’s and the Don’ts

Do:

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Laser treatments can dry out your skin, making hydration key to the healing process. Drink plenty of water and keep your skin moisturized. At Cortina Dermatology and Aesthetics, we offer a hydrating facial between laser services to help replenish moisture and give your skin an extra boost.

Use gentle cleansers and moisturizers. Your skin will be extra sensitive after a laser treatment, so opt for mild, fragrance-free products. Harsh ingredients can cause irritation and prolong healing. After your treatment, we will provide a personalized skincare plan to help you maintain the best results.

Sunscreen! Your skin is more susceptible to UV rays after a laser treatment so it’s best to avoid being in heavy sunlight all together for about 4-6 weeks after your treatment but if you are out wear plenty of sunscreen and hats to protect your skin.

Don’t:

Exfoliate too soon. Avoid exfoliants, retinoids, salicylic acid, or any harsh skincare products that could irritate your skin while it’s healing. Your skin needs time to recover, so stick to gentle care.

Engage in intense workouts for at least 24 hours or touch your face. Sweating can cause irritation and increase the risk of infection. It’s best to avoid high-intensity exercise and excessive face touching for a few days post-treatment.

Expose your skin to direct sunlight. Sun exposure can increase the risk of hyperpigmentation and irritation. If you need to be outside, always wear sunscreen and seek shade whenever possible.

Apply heavy makeup for at least 24 hours. Your skin needs a break! It’s best to avoid heavy foundation and powders. If you need to wear makeup, opt for lightweight, non-comedogenic products.

Following these post-treatment care tips will ensure that you achieve the best possible results. At Cortina Dermatology and Aesthetics, we are here to guide you every step of the way, ensuring you get the most out of your treatment!
